Leland was asked to do the Taylor workshop in Costa Mesa, CA last week. A couple of weeks before, I asked if I could join him and have a little vacation. We worked it out for my parents to keep the kids so I booked my flight. It was a great week for everyone. The kids had a great time at Papa and Grandma's and Leland and I had a great, relaxing time in CA. Thanks Mom and Dad for making it possible for me to go.
We flew out on Monday evening. I arrived at 7:30 CA time, but it was 9:30 TX time so I was ready for bed. Tuesday I took Leland and the Taylor artist to the convention location and then went back to the hotel to kill some time. I found my favorite movie (Hunt for Red October) on HBO so I watched a movie - just because I could. ;) I then went to Fashion Island. Not an island, but a neat outdoor mall near the coast. I didn't buy anything but really enjoyed just looking through the many stores that we don't have at home.
The view from Fashion Island.
A Koi pond in the mall.
These sitting areas were everywhere at the mall. I thought it interesting because these would blow away in one day in TX.
I picked Leland and Sebastian up from the workshop at 3:00. We then headed to Dana Point to go whale watching. What an experience. We really enjoyed it. The boat captain said that the 2 hour tour was the best they had ever had. The whale just hung out for us. We got to see him dive 4 different times. He would take a deep dive for about 10 minutes, so while we waited for him to come back up, we played with the dolphins. That was fun to watch also. After whale watching, we ate supper on the pier. Awesome food at that random location. Such a great evening we had.
Wednesday I went to a spa for the morning. I get frequent pedicures but have never done more than that. Leland encouraged me to check into a spa. I got an hour massage and a 45 minute facial. Wow! That was so relaxing. Leland might regret encouraging me to go. ;)
After I picked up the guys from the workshop, we went to eat at California Pizza Kitchen with the workshop staff. Very good pizza. From there, we went to Balboa Island. We took an auto ferry to get there. That was a new experience. Very interesting driving the car onto a ferry. We then drove to the end of the island and found a place to park. We walked out to the beach and played in the sand/water for awhile. Sebastian kept the camera and took lots of pictures of Leland and I enjoying the beach. It was lots of fun.
We were taking a picture of our shadows with Leland's phone and didn't realize Sebastian was taking our picture also.
Thursday I took a long nap in the morning before picking Leland up at lunch time. We ate lunch at In and Out Burger and then went to a mall in hopes of finding souviners for the kids. No luck, so we headed to the airport and bought some things there.
It was a great trip. It was a great get-a-way for me. Leland got to relax some even though he was working. The kids had a great time with grandparents. So a great vacation week for all. Now back to our school routine.
