Lubbock, Family and Ants

We just returned from a trip to Lubbock. Leland had a yearbook workshop that he took 4 students to. They left Thursday morning and the kids and I went up after work Thursday evening. I decided that Leland shouldn’t have that huge hotel room to himself. :) The hotel was awesome – thumbs up to Arbor Inn – it was great. The room was huge and the pool was awesome. We had a great time. While they were at the workshop, the kids and I got to see lots of family. We saw my grandparents Friday afternoon. He had hip surgery about 2 months ago, so it was nice to see him doing well. We also saw my aunt Pam and her girls (they will always be little girls to me even though they are 13 and 14 now). Pam is a yearbook adviser in Idalou so she was at the workshop. She brought her girls to join us at the Clay CafĂ© Friday evening. It was great to see them again and have them play with my kids. We also had some college friends, Kris and April, join us at Spanky’s for supper. I am always glad when I can go to Lubbock and see friends and family without having to rush around.

You are probably wondering about the ants. While at the mall in Lubbock we went to the Nature store. Ryland (and Leland) spotted the Ant Farm’s. Both were so excited they talked me into one. After church last night, we all loaded up and went ant hunting. At the end of our street is open “range” land so Leland quickly found a good ant hill. He collected 10 or so ants for our farm. Ryland is loving it. He is a little disappointed they don’t have elaborate tunnels made yet, but it’s lots of fun for a 4 year old boy.

We are actually all home this entire week. I am so excited. My house needs cleaning but that is the only major thing. The boys will probably go fishing and maybe swimming but all in all, a relaxing week. I’m excited.

I can't believe how big the kids are! Also, you have to realize that you are indeed the coolest mom ever for saying yes to an ant farm. How fun! I can hear my kids now begging to hang out at Aunt Harmony's house. Let's face it: you make the biggest pancakes known to man, you encourage owning bugs, you suscribe to Highlights, and you know the secrets to Super Mario Brothers. It's official - coolest mom ever. You're my hero.

Hey, I think we have that same stroller! That picture was taken in front of the chaparral at LCU, wasn't it? You're so lucky to get to go visit Lubbock again. I miss that place sometimes, especially during humid Houston summers.

That's so cute about the ant farm. He looks so proud of it in that picture.

He does look proud. It was so cute the other night when he asked Scott if he could have some ants from our yard. He seemed disappointed when Leland explained that he couldn't very well take them home in the pockets of his pants :O)

And I agree with Kelly...you are a super cool mom!
